Shower the People Opens New Site in SLO

On July 18, 2024, Shower the People inaugurated a new operating site at the San Luis Obispo BMW dealership on Calle Joaquin. We will be giving showers there from 4pm to 7pm every Thursday until Thanksgiving. This coincides with the free “Blessed to Serve” dinner that the dealership and its employees serve on Thursday evenings.

Meet us at the Community Resource Fair

Shower the People joined other local groups, programs, and agencies at the Community Resource Fair sponsored by Transitions Mental Health Association and the City of San Luis Obispo. The event was held at the downtown SLO county library branch on Friday, June 21, 2024. People experiencing homelessness could come by to pick out some clothes (including new shoes), get a haircut, have some coffee and breakfast, and learn about services and resources available in SLO.

Shower the People had a booth at the City of San Luis Obispo’s “Homelessness Response Forum” on June 5th, 2024 as part of the the “Service Provider Resource Expo” at the Forum. Cal Poly Volunteer Service Fair

Some of our most dedicated and hard-working volunteers come from our student community, and the April, 2024 Cal Poly Volunteer Service fair was a great opportunity for us to let students know how they can help our program succeed. Dozens of students came by our booth to talk with volunteers Anna and Aaron and learn what Shower the People is all about.

Doggy Days!

Cal Poly Veterinary Community Service Enterprise offered free veterinary services at our showers on April 27th and June 1st. “Every pet deserves to receive proper care, and every owner deserves peace of mind when it comes to their pet’s health. We are here to ensure every pet has access to the basic veterinary care they need. This project allows for Cal Poly students to gain hands-on experience, while improving the health of the community.”
